Pores / Congestion

Pores are the small openings in skin that contain hair follicles. Pores are open and contain oil also known as sebum to pass through. Skin needs sebum to keep it healthy by keeping it from drying out and protecting it. If your skin doesn’t produce much oil you will have small, hardly visible pores which are prone to irritation, but if your skin is on the oily side you will most likely have open and sometimes congested pores due to the overproduction of sebum being trapped and mixing with dead skin cells, dirt, makeup and bacteria. Pore size is determined by genetics, and can change size with age. Pores can sag over time when collagen production decreases which can increase the appearance of pores. We cannot change the size of pores but we can improve their appearance.
